All Natural Cough Syrup- with Honey, Lemon, Thyme, & Ginger
It’s officially the season of coughing and sneezing! Specially with school back in session. This all natural cough syrup is made with honey, lemon, thyme, and ginger and it is delicious! It’s easy to make and you should have it on hand during flu and cold season.
In this blog post I’m gonna break down what each ingredient does to support a healthy immune system while treating a pesky lingering cough!
The Break Down of Honey, Lemon, Thyme, and Ginger-
This recipe is great for kids (older than one years old) , adults, teenager and elders. It’s tasty and soothes your throat with all natural ingredients. As soon as I tell my mom that my throat hurts or I have a bad cough she will always say go take a spoonful of honey! And there’s a reason why.
Honey-
Honey is antibacterial and has amazing abilities to fight infections. It’s also an antiseptic and can help with recovery time. With honey being anti-inflammatory, it also helps with reduces swelling on the tonsils and sooths a sore throat.
Lemon-
Lemon is high in vitamin C which helps boost your immune system. Lemons are known to help break down mucus and help with nasal congestion. Studies have also been shown that lemons can shorten the duration of a cold.
Thyme-
It’s antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiseptic. Thyme works as an expectorant, which means it helps to bring up phlegm and mucus. Thyme also works as a spasmolytic. Meaning it can help with coughing fits and help to calm the respiratory muscles during a coughing fit.
Ginger-
Ginger helps reduce inflammation, sooth coughs and sore throats. It has anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties that can boost your immune system, it also contains antiviral and antibacterial properties that can help keep you healthy and boost your immune system.
Honey, Lemon, Thyme, & Ginger Cough Syrup Recipe-
Ingredients-
- About 1/2 cup Raw Honey (everything needs to be covered)
- 1 whole Lemon cut into slices
- 3-4 Sprigs of Thyme
- 1 tbsp of Ginger
Equipment-
- Pint Mason jar or weck jar
- Grater
Instructions-
- Chop up your lemon and put them at the bottom of your jar.
- Grate up your ginger and add to the top of the lemon slices.
- Next, Place the thyme on top of the ginger and push down to make sure everything is tightly packed in your jar.
- Next, pour your raw honey over the top just until everything is covered.
- Finally, keep your jar in the fridge for up to two months during cold and flu season. The honey is going to extract the lemon juice from the lemons to make it more watery.
- Take 1 tbsp as needed. For best results make sure you shake your jar before using.

- 4-5 Sprigs Thyme
- 1 tbsp Ginger
