The first trimester of Pregnancy
I thought it would be good to share my personal experience in the first trimester of pregnancy now that I’m past it! I’m currently 16 weeks pregnant and it feels like this pregnancy is going by very very fast! I’m trying to cherish every moment of it because I know how fast pregnancy and the newborn stage goes.
I’m so thankful I get to experience this pregnancy with Jordan. I still think its so crazy that we are due only four days apart! (If you’re new, Jordan is my identical twin sister.)
In this blog post I’m gonna go over questions I’ve been getting, all the details of everything I’ve been experiencing, and everything that has helped me make it through the first trimester!
My first trimester has been pretty easy compared to Jordan’s. It makes me wonder if we are gonna have the opposite genders as each other. She knows the gender of their baby but hasn’t announced it yet. We decided we are going to find out the gender of our baby. We keep going back and forth. We want to know but we know how amazing it would be to not find out until the delivery.
The kids really want to know what the baby is so we decided it lets just find out. And plus, I like that we can plan a little more by knowing.
Telling our families we are pregnant.
The first person I told was Jordan. I had already known she was pregnant so I was really hoping this would be our time to be pregnant together and low and behold it was! We’ve said so many times to each other “I can’t believe we are both pregnant at the same time!”
Matt was obviously the second person to know. I wanted to tell him in a fun cute way but he could read it all over my face. I was sitting at my vanity and he had just walked into our room. I tried to not look at him because I was smiling so much and then he goes “Did you take a test?”. I just smiled and said “yes! it was positive!” We were both just so excited! We’ve been praying for this baby!
Telling the kids was probably my most favorite! Lawsynn has been asking for a baby sister for YEARS now. I kid you not! Holden was just in his own little Holden world! He was so excited but more excited about the baby bottle pop that was given to them when we told them.
We took them on a fun trip to Springfield Missouri to Laura Ingalls Wilders House and decided to have a picnic and tell them there! I seriously meant so much to us being able to tell them there! Laura Ingalls holds a special place in my heart, just like so many other people.
Question’s I’ve been getting-
Did you and Jordan plan to get pregnant together?
Matt and I had been trying for a third baby since January and then we had a loss in May. Jordan was focused on their wedding, they eloped in Colorado in April and then had a big reception at the end of June. We always said it would AMAZING to be pregnant together and I honestly didn’t know if it was going to happen.
The end of June my doctor diagnosed me with PCOS after having an ultrasound ( the kids came with me, that was interesting lol). So my focus was on how to change my diet and eat heathier and I honestly thought it was going to take me several more months to get pregnant.
I swear cutting out coffee and STOPPING stevia helped me get pregnant. Once I learned the negative effects stevia has on your fertility I knew it was time to cut it out of my diet completely. I swear it helped.
Did I take anything to get pregnant?
The only thing I took was Earthley Fertile Boost and I swear this made a huge difference with my cycles. I notice right away my cramps were so much better after taking it for a month. I usually have really painful cramps before I start.
I was on it for about 2-3 months before getting pregnant with this baby.
Will you get an epidural?
This pregnancy I’m wanting to do everything differently. I’m hoping to go natural with no epidural and no inducing. I got induced with Holden and it wasn’t bad at all but I want my body to go into labor when the baby is ready. Obviously if something is wrong and my doctor recommends I get induced I’m fine with that. But I’m definitely aiming for a natural delivery.
How long were your labors with Lawsynn & Holden?
With Lawsynn, my labor was 14 hours, which isn’t bad for your first baby. With Holden my labor was only 6 hours. Once they broke my water it really moved things along and he was born three hours after that!
Will you have this baby at home?
I actually LOVE the idea of a home birth but I don’t feel comfortable delivering at our current house. It’s pretty tiny and I’m scared I’ll keep my kids up, or my dog will go absolutely bonkers with a midwife there and it just sounds stressful as of right now.
What’s been the hardest part of the first trimester?
I consider my first trimester to have been really easy as far as throwing up and the tiredness. Don’t get me wrong, I have been very nauseous and tired but I feel like it hasn’t been nearly as bad as what I was when I was pregnant with Holden. I was also working a job where I would wake up at 4:30 and I swearing waking up that early didn’t help.
I only get nauseous now if I go to long without eating and have only thrown up a couple times.
Things I’ve ordered during the 1st trimester.
Number one thing I wish I would have bought sooner was my pregnancy pillow. My sleep was the first thing that I struggled with. Constantly getting up at night to pee and just not getting comfortable. This pregnancy pillow has been amazing and now I sleep like a baby every night!
Pregnancy Journal- I’ve gotten a pregnancy journal with my other two kids so I had to with this little babe. I like keeping track of different things that happen through out my pregnancy and I’ve loved this journal.
Maternity Yoga Pants- I just ordered these and I’ll probably be living in these all winter long! Yoga pants bring me back to 2003. These ones are super soft and the perfect length!
Maternity Sweaters- I ordered this one and this one. I definitely need bigger sweaters since I’ll be pregnant all winter long (thank GOD!!).
